Botany garden by the Slovak Agriculture University in Nitra

The Botany garden in Nitra was established in 1982 as a purpose-built facility of the Slovak Agriculture University in Nitra. The author of  the Botany garden project was the landscape architect Alexander Glaus, who put his garden into the middle of the university´s area.  He followed the building´s architecture and placed it near to the Agrokomplex area.

The grounds of the garden have an irregular shape, there is an artificial lake in its middle, and an uphill with some linked pedestrian walkways, which divide the area into smaller irregular shapes.

Except the native flora, the Botany garden rounds up the vegetation of some tropical and subtropical areas. As one of the few it has the role of an agrobotany garden and its results are the collections of fruit and crops. Part of the Botany garden is a mini ZOO which is open to public and a university vivarium, which is a trapping centre for protected species of snakes.

As an academic workplace it  focuses on the education of its students. In the form of expositions, but not only in the area of Botany garden, it tries to bring the world of plants closer to the general public. The Botany garden is situated in the urban area Chrenová as the part of the Slovak Agriculture University in Nitra near the Agrocomplex Show Grounds.
